Philosophy and Mission

Taiwan is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where earthquakes are frequent. People need to cultivate strong awareness of earthquake-related risks, and disaster‑relief personnel must further enhance their rescue skills. After a major earthquake, damaged terrain and roads are often the main causes of delays in rescue operations. For this reason, firefighters and rescue workers need to continually improve their driving techniques.

Since its establishment, the Society of Safe Driving has, every year, organized free off‑road safe‑driving experience camps for fire departments across Taiwan, providing frontline rescue personnel with specialized off‑road driving training.

The Society also pioneered the concept of “training through competition” for fire rescue driving, successfully nurturing six seed instructors, thereby strengthening both training capacity and disaster‑relief capabilities in off‑road rescue driving.

We hope that when disasters strike Taiwan in the future, firefighting and rescue personnel will possess the skills to drive safely and overcome complex terrain. Even when roads are broken and impassable due to disasters, they will be able to navigate through and deliver heavy rescue equipment and manpower to their destinations swiftly and safely, safeguarding the lives and property of the people of Taiwan.

The integration of the “training through competition” philosophy with the mission of safe driving for firefighters is the best interpretation of the Society of Safe Driving’s English acronym, S.O.S., embodied in our emblem.
