[Reporter Xu Guozhen / Taichung] The charity group "Big Apple Little Sun Vitality Platform," known for supporting rural disadvantaged groups, caring for the elderly and children in mountainous areas, and sponsoring youth baseball teams, donated a multifunctional off-road rescue vehicle worth about 7 million TWD to the Taichung City Fire Department on July 7. The donation ceremony included a live demonstration of the vehicle and various rescue equipment to simulate disaster scenarios, aiming to enhance rescue capacity and strengthen fire and rescue safety.

Led by founder Chen Yuanyuan, the platform has long supported firefighting and rescue units, donating multiple special rescue vehicles to fire departments nationwide. With over 100 charity members, they assist rural disadvantaged groups, youth baseball teams, and care for the elderly and children in mountainous regions. During the pandemic, they also helped retrofit epidemic prevention ambulances (isolation cabins) and donated protective shields, isolation gowns, and masks to frontline medical staff.

The donated multifunctional off-road rescue vehicle was built by Chen Hehuang, known as the "Asia Rally King," who has won international rally championships representing Taiwan multiple times. Chen emphasized his understanding of government agencies’ difficulties in maintaining heavy machinery and has pledged to cover maintenance costs and engineering for the vehicle for the next 10 years.

 

They hope fire department personnel can fully learn how to utilize the vehicle’s off-road capabilities under conditions like earthquake-damaged or war-affected roads, enabling efficient rescue by reaching disaster areas quickly and making the best use of the golden rescue time.

Taichung Fire Department Director Sun Fu-you stated that this multi‑functional off‑road rescue vehicle offers off‑road capability, obstacle clearing, breaking, digging, hoisting, and water‑mist cooling and firefighting functions. It can fully support rescue operations such as landfill, waste, and sheet‑metal fires, as well as vehicle falls, body dismantling, and boat or vehicle hoisting and stabilization. He hopes the team will make wide use of it in various disaster rescues to make firefighting safer and more efficient.
